Introduction

My name is K.Chung (Chan Kai Chung). Some friends call me 'Ah Chung'. My work mainly leans towards a bit of Japanese style, with some anime style, and a bit of pop. In recent years,  focus on drawing old Hong Kong and illustrations of girls.

Story

  • Juat few years old?  I really liked watching "Saint Seiya." My dad gave me some butter paper and told me, "Paint it on!." After printing the front, I would add the back next to it. I proudly showed it to him, saying, "Done. Pretty?" He replied, "Alas, you didn't print it." I was puzzled, "Huh? Why did my dad know I didn't print it?" He said, "I want you to draw it in a way that you can't tell it's not printed!" So I started drawing comic books next to it from scratch.

I just graduated and got hired by a game company. The boss said, " I want to run TV commercials for our game, so I want to use animation to convey it." When I first encountered animation, the response after drawing it was really positive. I also started developing an interest in animation.

  • Japanese illustrators I really admired back then. They usually design game characters. I saw them as role models and aspired to reach their level. I really enjoy creating game character designs myself.

Luckily, I got into my first company. I got to participate in some character design working on some computer games. As computer games gradually got replaced by mobile apps, I switched to another mobile game company. But that company had much less character design work because it mainly developed games based on existing IPs, so there was no chance to do original character design. Though the work is quite stable, it just feels like the spark is gone. I just couldn't do what I truly enjoyed and loved.

By chance, an old colleague came out who started up a mobile game development company. Knowing I had a passion for it, he said, "Why don't you find a partner, start your own company, and make your own games?" Then you can design your own characters and have more freedom. After thinking it over, I mustered the courage to give it a shot.

Your Heart is Gravity (2023)

In today's society, many different people will say different things, and many will tell you that what you believe is wrong, that your values are misguided, and that theirs are the only correct ones. No matter how many opinions you hear, hold onto what you believe is right or what you aspire to pursue. That inner conviction is your true Gravity.

Liberation (2024)

I used a plug and a high school girl to form a combination. Pulling out the plug signifies that I've finally lived through this life, no longer need to endure certain pressures, truly enjoying rest. At the same time, this expression, I think, was somewhat influenced by Tetsuya Ishida. That expression in the middle really left a deep impression on me. So I incorporated that expression—not blank, but slightly enigmatic—into the design. Why doesn't she simply rest when the plug is pulled? Why doesn't she close her eyes but keeps them open, as if wanting to be seen, creating a subtle sense of dissonance. Pondering the meaning behind.
